The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Allah has ninety-nine names. Whoever memorizes them will enter Paradise." (Bukhari & Muslim)
But memorizing them is only the beginning. Understanding what each name means is what transforms recitation into a living relationship with Allah.
What Are the Asma ul Husna?
Asma ul Husna literally means "the Most Beautiful Names." These 99 names each describe an attribute or quality of Allah. Together they paint a complete picture of who Allah is — His power, His mercy, His wisdom, His closeness to us.
A Few of the Most Beloved Names
Ar-Rahman — The Most Gracious
This name refers to Allah's universal mercy that extends to all of creation — believers and non-believers alike. Every breath you take is a manifestation of Ar-Rahman.
Ar-Raheem — The Most Merciful
While Ar-Rahman is general mercy, Ar-Raheem refers to Allah's specific and continuous mercy for the believers. This mercy will be fully realized on the Day of Judgment.
Al-Ghaffar — The Repeatedly Forgiving
Not just forgiving once, but repeatedly. No matter how many times a person returns to sin and then repents sincerely, Al-Ghaffar forgives — again and again.
Al-Wadud — The Loving
Allah's love is unique — pure, unconditional, and infinite. Al-Wadud loves His servants and wants what is good for them, even when they cannot see it.
Al-Qarib — The Near
"And when My servants ask you concerning Me — indeed I am near." (Quran 2:186). Allah is closer to you than your jugular vein.
