The Five Daily Prayers
Islam prescribes five obligatory prayers each day, each performed at specific times determined by the sun's position:
- Fajr — Dawn prayer, performed before sunrise. Two rak'ahs.
- Dhuhr — Midday prayer, after the sun passes its zenith. Four rak'ahs.
- Asr — Afternoon prayer, in the late afternoon. Four rak'ahs.
- Maghrib — Sunset prayer, just after sunset. Three rak'ahs.
- Isha — Night prayer, after twilight has disappeared. Four rak'ahs.
Prayer Time Calculation Methods
DuaSalaam supports 14 internationally recognised calculation methods, including the Muslim World League (MWL), Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), Umm al-Qura University (Makkah), University of Islamic Sciences (Karachi), and the Egyptian General Authority of Survey. These methods differ in how they define the angles for Fajr and Isha based on solar depression, allowing Muslims worldwide to use the method endorsed by their local authority.
