Is DuaSalaam free to use?

Yes. DuaSalaam is completely free. The core features — prayer times, Qibla direction, daily duas, the 99 Names of Allah, and the Islamic calendar — are available to everyone at no cost, and most do not require an account.

Do I need to create an account?

No account is required to use the main features. You only need an account if you want to back up and sync your personal worship records (Aamaal) across devices, which is an optional feature.

Why are the prayer times slightly different from my local mosque?

Different Islamic authorities use slightly different sun angles to define Fajr and Isha, and there are two juristic opinions for Asr. Small differences of a few minutes are normal. DuaSalaam lets you choose the calculation method your local mosque follows so the times match as closely as possible.

How does the app calculate prayer times?

Prayer times are calculated from the position of the sun relative to your geographic location. Fajr and Isha depend on how far the sun is below the horizon (the twilight angle), while Dhuhr, Asr, and Maghrib follow the sun’s position during the day. You can select from recognised methods like Muslim World League, ISNA, Umm al-Qura, and others.

Which calculation method should I choose?

Choose the method used by your local mosque or national Islamic authority. As a general guide: ISNA is common in North America, Muslim World League across much of Europe, Umm al-Qura in Saudi Arabia, the Egyptian method in much of Africa, and the Karachi method across South Asia.

What is the difference between the standard and Hanafi Asr time?

The standard opinion (followed by the Shafi’i, Maliki, and Hanbali schools) begins Asr when an object’s shadow equals its own length. The Hanafi opinion begins Asr later, when the shadow is twice the object’s length. Choose the one that matches the school you follow.

How does the Qibla finder work?

The Qibla is the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca. We calculate the great-circle bearing from your location to the Kaaba’s coordinates and use your device’s compass sensor to show which way to face. For best accuracy, hold your phone flat and away from metal objects, and calibrate the compass if prompted.

Does the Qibla finder need an internet connection?

The Qibla bearing is calculated from your location, which requires location access. Once your position is known, the direction is computed on your device. A live magnetic compass requires a device with a magnetometer sensor, which most phones have.

What are masnoon duas?

Masnoon duas are supplications that are established in the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Rather than invented phrases, these are the words taught by the Prophet for different occasions, such as waking, eating, travelling, and seeking forgiveness.

Are the duas authentic?

Yes. We focus on supplications drawn from the Qur’an and authentic prophetic traditions, and we present each with its Arabic text, a transliteration, and an English translation. If you ever believe a dua needs correction, please email us.

Why might the Hijri date be off by a day?

The Islamic calendar is lunar and, for some dates, depends on the physical sighting of the new moon, which varies by region. Our dates are based on established astronomical data, so they may differ by a day from a local moon-sighting announcement. Always confirm Ramadan and the two Eids with your local authority.

Can I use DuaSalaam to track my prayers and fasts?

Yes. The daily deeds tracker (Aamaal) lets you record your five daily prayers, voluntary (nawafil) prayers, fasts, charity, and dhikr. You can navigate between dates and your entries save automatically.

Is my personal data private?

Yes. The core features run on your device, and we collect only what is necessary. Your precise GPS coordinates are used on-device to calculate prayer times and the Qibla and are not sold or shared. If you back up worship records, they are end-to-end encrypted so that even we cannot read them. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

What happens if I forget my backup password?

Your encrypted worship records can only be unlocked with your password. For your security, we cannot recover or reset encrypted data if you forget your password and no longer have an authenticated device. This is the trade-off that keeps your data truly private.

Does the app work offline?

Many features work offline once data is available on your device, including viewing duas, the 99 Names, and previously calculated prayer times. Features such as fetching fresh moon-sighting-adjusted dates may require an internet connection.

Which platforms is DuaSalaam available on?

DuaSalaam is available as a mobile app for Android, and many features are also accessible directly through this website. We are continually expanding platform support.

Are the lectures on DuaSalaam from reliable scholars?

Our lecture library features content from recognised scholars and approved channels. Videos go through a curation and approval step before appearing in the app, and only embeddable content from the original sources is shown.

How can I report an error or suggest a feature?

We welcome corrections and ideas. Please email us at dcm700@proton.me with as much detail as you can. Feedback from knowledgeable users directly helps us improve the accuracy and usefulness of the app.
